Post-Pregnancy Recovery : SRC

The SRC Way

Before falling pregnant, I was fit strong and healthy. I was running, horse riding and mixing in the gym and a few pilates classes. I was never larger than a size 10, but my body was always a fit body – and I loved what I worked so hard for.

When I fell pregnant, I was instantly lethargic and exhausted, tired, sick and unable to exercise. From eight weeks I suffered with morning sickness terribly. I was able to push through up until 14 weeks where I was too exhausted to continue my training. I tried a pilates class at 18 weeks, but found I was too uncomfortable to move, and didn’t enjoy myself. After this, I was then put on bed rest from 26 weeks and gave birth at 35+5 weeks.

While pregnant, my body changed so much – I gained 30kg of fluid and baby weight which never bothered me at the time as I knew it was mostly fluid. In the first 7 days, 15kg was lost, with another 6 the week after. Since then, I haven’t been able to exercise to slim down, as I had a c-section delivery and a 6 week medical recovery.

Post Surgery

My post-baby body was nothing like how I wanted it to be. I was tired, still healing from major abdominal surgery and my uterus still made me look like I was 30 weeks pregnant. As soon as my twins were born, I knew I had to do something about the pain and discomfort I was in. My belly was still so big, full of fluid and very wobbly. It hurt a lot to move at all, mainly from all the movement around my scar and it was at this point that I knew I wanted to do something about the recovery process and when I discovered SRC Recovery Shorts.

Most post-natal bodies take a long time to heal and don’t bounce back anywhere near as quick as what people think. In-fact, it takes on average 4-8 weeks for the uterus to shrink back to normal size, and sometimes even more for twins. Some people put on very minimal weight and recover within a few weeks. I, like so may other women, was not even close to being one of them. Sigh!

The SRC Recovery shorts were a godsend! They made my recovery from surgery such a breeze. My physio measured a 5 finger width rectus diastasis (separation of your abdominal muscles). This actually happens to almost three quarters of pregnant women, which is huge! She also measured around the widest part of my butt for the shorts to fit. They are made to be super tight. It took two people to get them on (and off!) every time I used them!

How SRC Recovery Shorts Work

The shorts work by compressing your muscles and fluid towards your core, to help with training your muscles to return back to normal. It also helps your mind to feel at ease, knowing you look skinnier with them on – not just supported for your health. I never took mine off unless I had to. I was so big in the beginning that I measured a large in size and used these for a week. Then I dropped to the medium and went to the small after about 5 weeks. It is important to note that I had three different sizes to use, as I had so much weight to lose in the first week. I wore the tights for every training session (especially rigorous exercise) and at night to bed.

I wore them day and night as such as my outfits would let me. Unfortunately my dresses were shorter than my knees and the shorts stuck out form the bottom. There is also a new version of the SRC shorts – the SRC Recovery Mini. This is in addition to the SRC Recovery Shorts and the SRC Recovery Leggings. I wish I had the shorts for my pregnancy! Thanks Crystal! This is three months post babies, so it’s nice to feel like myself again. I’m still a few KG from where I was pre-babies but that’s ok. I’m taking the time to enjoy them, not worry too much about my body. These shorts were an amazing help though! Thanks for the support as always xx

  • Question.. Have you ever had Botox or fillers?
Let me tell you my story 💖
I’m 31, I have two young twins and I’ve had plenty of late nights tending up with babies in the last few years.
I’ve had Botox a few times in my life- I started when I was mid-20’s as I had began to have bad headaches and wanted an alternative. And, impressively, it worked very well!
Since moving to the Gold Coast, I’ve been looking for a professional clinic to go to who has a long-term plan for me and my face. For me, it’s important to have a plan and to know where I’m headed - instead of me thinking I might know what I would like or what might look best in that moment. I am always searching for a professional opinion who can help me today and also well into the future.
I’ve been going to @sculpted.clinic for over 12 months and here’s why:
- Dr Raja is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon and has an absolute knowledge of my facial anatomy. He has the understanding that my face is not symmetric and might require different doses on opposite sides, and listens to my concerns and professionally and kindly approaches suggestions for enhancement. - I am treated like a friend and like I am part of the family, not like a number (the clinic is actually run by the family, which makes it friendly and approachable, whilst holding the professionalism level at its highest)! 💖
- I see a Doctor (Dr Raja Sawhney) who is looking at and treating my face as a whole and giving me the best options and a plan moving forward. - I see the doctor who injects me (ie no FaceTime to a doctor elsewhere) and I can as any question and have an immediate response with trust and understanding of what is happening and how it’s working for me.
I want to be transparent and open about my treatments, and I want to open the conversation for you to ask questions and feel safe to do so. Do you have Botox or fillers? What do you think or know (or don’t!) about them? How can I help you understand or be more open about them? Let’s get this conversation started!
