The SRC Way
Before falling pregnant, I was fit strong and healthy. I was running, horse riding and mixing in the gym and a few pilates classes. I was never larger than a size 10, but my body was always a fit body – and I loved what I worked so hard for.
When I fell pregnant, I was instantly lethargic and exhausted, tired, sick and unable to exercise. From eight weeks I suffered with morning sickness terribly. I was able to push through up until 14 weeks where I was too exhausted to continue my training. I tried a pilates class at 18 weeks, but found I was too uncomfortable to move, and didn’t enjoy myself. After this, I was then put on bed rest from 26 weeks and gave birth at 35+5 weeks.
While pregnant, my body changed so much – I gained 30kg of fluid and baby weight which never bothered me at the time as I knew it was mostly fluid. In the first 7 days, 15kg was lost, with another 6 the week after. Since then, I haven’t been able to exercise to slim down, as I had a c-section delivery and a 6 week medical recovery.
My post-baby body was nothing like how I wanted it to be. I was tired, still healing from major abdominal surgery and my uterus still made me look like I was 30 weeks pregnant. As soon as my twins were born, I knew I had to do something about the pain and discomfort I was in. My belly was still so big, full of fluid and very wobbly. It hurt a lot to move at all, mainly from all the movement around my scar and it was at this point that I knew I wanted to do something about the recovery process and when I discovered SRC Recovery Shorts.
Most post-natal bodies take a long time to heal and don’t bounce back anywhere near as quick as what people think. In-fact, it takes on average 4-8 weeks for the uterus to shrink back to normal size, and sometimes even more for twins. Some people put on very minimal weight and recover within a few weeks. I, like so may other women, was not even close to being one of them. Sigh!
The SRC Recovery shorts were a godsend! They made my recovery from surgery such a breeze. My physio measured a 5 finger width rectus diastasis (separation of your abdominal muscles). This actually happens to almost three quarters of pregnant women, which is huge! She also measured around the widest part of my butt for the shorts to fit. They are made to be super tight. It took two people to get them on (and off!) every time I used them!
How SRC Recovery Shorts Work
The shorts work by compressing your muscles and fluid towards your core, to help with training your muscles to return back to normal. It also helps your mind to feel at ease, knowing you look skinnier with them on – not just supported for your health. I never took mine off unless I had to. I was so big in the beginning that I measured a large in size and used these for a week. Then I dropped to the medium and went to the small after about 5 weeks. It is important to note that I had three different sizes to use, as I had so much weight to lose in the first week. I wore the tights for every training session (especially rigorous exercise) and at night to bed.
I wore them day and night as such as my outfits would let me. Unfortunately my dresses were shorter than my knees and the shorts stuck out form the bottom. There is also a new version of the SRC shorts – the SRC Recovery Mini. This is in addition to the SRC Recovery Shorts and the SRC Recovery Leggings. I wish I had the shorts for my pregnancy!
